If you forget the interior light when you get to the airport, the chip will essentially shut down the battery before it's completely drained. Slickest of all, the Re-Start should never go dead, and you should never, ever need a jump. It's warranted for five years, with the first three full replacement and the last two prorated. It all helps to extend battery life, and Antigravity says the Re-Start should last seven to nine years, depending on climate. BMS prevents overcharging and overdischarging, and its thermal management system balances cell use to optimize operating temperature. The tricks, after the lithium chemistry, start with a chip-controlled Battery Management System. They're available in many automotive group sizes, with multiple choices in cranking amps and reserve power. The Antigravity Re-Starts aren't cheap, but they're exceptionally light (all under 20 pounds) and loaded with high-tech features. Using this calculator, I can determine that with a FoV of 94°, an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a drone height of 60m, the image footprint would be 102.9m * 77.2m, while with an FoV of 77°, an aspect ratio of 16:9 and the same drone height, the image footprint would be 83.1m * 46.8m. I’ve used these equations to create a calculator in Excel note that Excel uses radians as the default unit for angles. In summary, equations (5) and (6) allow us to use the FoV, aspect ratio and height of any given camera to determine the image footprint, while equation (7) allows us to determine what height we should fly a drone at, given a desired horizontal image dimension. Using the equation of a right-angled triangle again,ĭ^2 = A^2 + (r * A)^2 - substituting the value of B from (2)Ī^2 = D^2 / (1 + r^2) - flipping the terms of the equation Independent variable and (B) to be the dependent variable. If (A) and (B) are the sides of the image, then the aspect ratio To create two identical right-angled triangles). Of the right-angled triangle with the two included angles as θ°/2Īnd (180°-θ°)/2 (as becomes clear when the FoV angle is bisected If the diagonal of the image is D, D/2 is the length of the base For a far more complex solution (which I have to admit I barely understand) look up this post (StackExchange) where mountainunicycler (Github user) describes nesting a Python script within Latex (what) which then calculates the FoV of a drone-mounted camera and outputs a PDF with graphics ( I can’t even.) ! ! These equations assume the camera to be perpendicular to the ground and don’t account for lens distortion. For more on aspect ratios, see this post which recommends using the native aspect ratio for any given camera. In combination with the height of the drone, these two camera-parameters determine the final image footprint. For example, from the technical descriptions, a Phantom 3 Advanced camera has a FoV of 94° and user-selectable aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9, while the Phantom 4 Pro 2.0 has an FoV of 84° and user-selectable aspect ratios of 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9. To break the problem down, the two fixed variables are a camera’s field of view (FoV), which is described as the angle which it can ‘see’ at any given instant, and its aspect ratio, which is the ratio between the length and width of its images. All of this required some high-school level trigonometry to work out I was never a fan of trigonometry as a teenager, but using it to understand both the Triangular Greenness Index (as detailed in a previous post on vegetation indices) and the current problem was actually a lot of fun. Also, as we work with a number of different drones (and thus drone cameras), I wanted to have a set of equations in place that we could use for a variety of situations. However, one of the projects we’re currently working on is not so much a mapping project as it is ecological research, and to cut a long story short, ensuring that we can correctly apply a set of ecological statistical tools that account for double-counting and observer error requires us to be able to ascertain the length and width of each image at different drone altitudes. This really doesn’t require us to think a lot about the length and width of each image the only two limiting factors we usually need to consider are the final map’s (or technically, orthorectified mosaic’s) spatial resolution and the drone’s maximum legal height. Once we have enough images covering the area to be mapped, we stitch them all together to create the final map. When we use drones for mapping purposes, we usually program them to fly autonomously along a pre-programmed flight path, collecting images with a specified front- and side- overlap. It is also potent enough to help the scooter climb fly-overs with conviction, even with a pillion along for the ride. Pick-up is good, which means you can literally zip from the starting line. The Scooty not only serves the need of the urban commuter, but it is also lighter than the other models of scooters. However, it is a very potent engine, which also does duty in the Jupiter and the Wego. The 109.77cc single cylinder engine churning out 8bhp of power and 8.7Nm of torque might seem mediocre on paper. Thumb the starter and the engine starts with a little rumble in the shiny exhaust. The riding position is relaxed and the perfectly padded and broad seat only make the commute even more comfortable. The Scooty doesn't get any mechanical changes, so its riding ergonomics and comfortable seat remain to be the highlights. It competes with the Yamaha Ray, Honda Activa-I and the Hero Pleasure. The Scooty Zest 110 is available in nine colours – that’s way too many to list here. But the brakes are now available with a linked brake system at no extra cost. Unfortunately, even for this latest model, the company hasn't given it a disc brake even as an option. Ride and handling is taken care of by the telescopic front suspension and hydraulic rear mono shock. The scooter is powered by an 110cc, single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 7.9bhp of power at 7,500rpm and a maximum torque of 8.8Nm at 5,500rpm. It offers more storage space in the form of an open glove box, retractable bag hooks and under-seat hooks. The scooter also gets 19-litres of under-seat storage, which is best in its class. The BS6 Scooty Zest 110 continues to get tubeless tyres, LED taillight, a back-lit speedometer and a broader dual-textured seat to give good riding comfort. This is why the overall design language is trendy and retains the familiar Scooty look with its steeply raked apron, a big headlamp and vertically stacked turn indicators. The Scooty Zest 110 is a scooter that TVS positions as a two-wheeler for women. This Scooty Zest 110 scooter weighs 103 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 5 liters. With both front and rear drum brakes, TVS Scooty Zest 110 comes up with combined braking system of both wheels. The ballistic nylon construction, double stitching, adjustable length-wide webbing neck and waist straps, internal hanging pockets and dual side of the waist hammer hanger loops all add to the function and useful features of the Mechanix Wear Apron. Many of the historical design features have been utilized in this new apron having been perfected in previous versions - the upper chest pocket and lower center slit are such features. The upper apron area has been expanded to cover more of the chest and the very useful upper center pocket has been optimized to perfectly fit a standard spiral bound note pad, pen, 6-inch metal engineer ruler and #2 pencil if needed. With input from championship-winning NASCAR, NHRA and AMA Supercross teams and crew members, every detail of the all new Mechanix Wear Work Apron has been refined and perfected to allow the user quicker access to tools and parts placed in the various pockets. Instead of talking about the intruders and the flesh-eating virus, he continuously encourages Paul (Strong) to party. He arrives to inspect the crisis and seems to make light of everything. One of my favorite characters is Deputy Winston played by Giuseppe Andrews. My husband and I are calling it “the Showgirlsof horror”! It just didn’t get the recognition it deserves. Although Cabin in the Woods (2011) is the modern meta-commentary on cabin-in-the-woods films, I’m fairly confident that Cabin Feverpulled it off 9 years prior. The first bro in the film is a cameo by the filmmaker himself, Eli Roth, who I believe to be a wink to the audience letting us know that there is something more here. But similar to the first time I watched The Room, I find it really hard to believe that all of this was done by accident. Things are “gay”, sexual consent is not inquired, and the second douchiest bro in the film sports a shirt citing “Ripe On 6-13-06”, a nod to when the Olsen twins would turn 18. This time around, “problematic” is the first word that comes to mind and I kind of hate that term. I originally saw this film in the early 2000s mostly because it stars Rider Strong from the widely beloved TV show, Boy Meets World. After a couple days I began to embrace the feeling of being alone in the woods, disconnected from technology, feeling present, and-even for a moment-safe from coronavirus. It’s fascinating how tied to the internet we’ve all become. It seems to help safely escape the treacherous reality while trying to make sense of the epidemic. However, there’s been something therapeutic about watching quarantine themed films while, in reality, humanity quarantines. Stumbling into this getaway that lacked WiFi and a neighbor was scary. How we watched this film while actually quarantining during a global pandemic at an off-the-grid cabin, I will never know (see photo below). Their true colors show as they attempt to survive, grasping the attention of locals. One by one they become prey to a flesh-eating virus. A handful of friends stay at a secluded cabin in the woods for the week. So after a day of skiing near our most recent, admittedly very eerie Airbnb rental, we hit the thrift store and were able to snatch B ody of Lies (2008), Ghost Rider(2007), Laws of Attraction(2004), and what this article will focus on, the piece de resistance, Cabin Fever(2002).Ī quick synopsis. Browsing the shelves of films, trying to establish just how your Saturday evening would look it lacks the frustration of flicking through Netflix’s mediocrity.ĭid you know there are still stores that offer that service? They usually cost between $1 and $3 a rental, there are NO late fees, and if you decide you want to just add the movie to your home collection, you can! They’re called thrift stores and they’re everywhere. With many other casualties of COVID, that store has sadly closed, but it reminded us how fun video rentals can be. My husband and I used to be fortunate enough to still have an active video rental store in our neighborhood. There are some getaway locations, as we have unintentionally discovered, that although fully equipped with a TV and DVD player, do not have internet nor a DVD collection. I challenge you, go to a family-oriented Airbnb with a collection of movies available andI would be surprised if they don’t have: Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Fast and the Furious, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Departed, or Fight Club. Like pouring through the CD stacks at a used record store, there is a definitive era exhibited in these libraries, usually films spanning from around 1998 through 2010. One common thread we have found amongst the less “curated” destinations has been the eclectic DVD selection. They allow us to get away and scratch that travel itch, yet still be responsible by social distancing. Throughout the pandemic, my fiancé (now husband) and I have taken a number of trips to rural Airbnb locations. The Georgia State Horticultural Society, founded near Augusta in 1876, promoted the introduction and testing of many fruit varieties and their distribution throughout the state while under the leadership of Prosper J.A. Peaches, in particular, benefited from this transition. The abolition of slavery forced farmers to search for alternatives to the traditional labor-intensive cotton crop. Peach expansion in acreage and production was fueled by several factors. Georgia earned its "Peach State" designation during the three decades following the Civil War. They were transported by wagon to Augusta, then by shallow-draft boat to Savannah, and finally by steamship to New York. The first Georgia peaches were shipped to the New York market between 18. Since then production has decreased to about 2.6 million bushels annually. His method of shipping peaches in champagne baskets, rather than in pulverized charcoal, helped to preserve the flavor of the fruit and contributed to his success.Ĭonsiderable expansion of peach acreage occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, resulting in an all-time high production of almost eight million bushels by 1928. Raphael Moses, a planter and Confederate officer from Columbus, was among the first to market peaches within Georgia in 1851 and is credited with being the first to ship and sell peaches successfully outside of the South. Before the Civil War, increasing numbers of home orchards were planted in Georgia. By the mid-1700s peaches and plums were cultivated by the Cherokee Indians. Simons and Cumberland islands along Georgia's coast in 1571. Augustine, Fla., Franciscan monks introduced them to St. Though peaches were originally planted in St. These seeds eventually found their way to the red clay soil of middle Georgia where they were planted on acres of land which would later become Peach County. Peaches were later introduced into Europe and Christopher Columbus brought peach seeds to the new world on his second and third trips. Nearly all peaches grown in Georgia are sold in the wholesale fresh market, with a small percentage sold locally at packing houses and fruit stands.ĬLICK HERE for additional historical information on the peach industryįirst grown in China almost 4,000 years ago, peaches spread from their homeland to the western world via India and Persia where they were first cultivated. Georgia enjoys important production and marketing advantages, primarily its proximity to eastern markets and favorable prices because of early harvests and high-quality fruit production. Additionally, the sandy loam soils of the fall line are more favorable to peach production than the Piedmont's heavy clays or the Coastal Plain's sands.įresh Georgia peaches are available only 16 weeks each year, from mid-May to August. The early harvest allows premium prices for the crop. This area is far enough north to receive sufficient winter chilling, but far enough south to avoid late frosts and guarantee early harvest dates. Georgia's peach industry is concentrated in Peach, Crawford, Taylor and Macon counties along the fall line, the transition zone between Georgia's Piedmont and Coastal Plain and 75 percent of Georgia's total harvest comes from these counties. About half of the peaches harvested in Georgia come from Peach County. A typical Georgia peach crop can bring in up to 140 million pounds of peaches and brought and approximately $30-$40 million in revenue. Georgia is widely known as the Peach State and Georgia peaches are arguably the sweetest and tastiest grown anywhere in the world, Georgia ranks third nationally in acreage devoted to peaches and in production. Georgia's peach industry has a long tradition and Peach County put the Peach in Georgia! The first peaches were planted in the state in the 18th century, and commercial production began in the mid-19th century. S ending out the first batch of “gentle reader” epistles i am immediately noticing things about the way the texts negotiate constraint, incursion and risk. i bought a second-hand olympia typewriter, so as to remove myself and the process of creation more completely from the arena of “frictionless sharing”, and to preserve as an anchor to reality, a tactile relationship with the poetry i write. and this is where this project is beginning. i would be writing against the normalising or “cleaning up” of experience that usually goes on during poem-making, and allowing instead for the inscription of lived experience upon the text, for material reality to make incursions and disruptions, for something more intimate.Īnd so i decided: private letters, to any possible number of “gentle readers”. i began to wonder if by creating a book, less of epistolary poetry as it’s commonly understood within the context of publication, but of letters that function as poems within very intimate contexts, and very private spaces and relations, would this change and shape the process and the type of poetry being written. writing for a readership, in order to be read, is writing not to express or embody trauma, but to render it acceptable, intelligible, accessible it is to curtail and to clean up experience.Īnd i became obsessed by this, with the idea that books are like derrida’s postcards, these infinitely accessible / accessed, mediated artefacts that the action of opening a book, and that of opening a letter have these radically different symbolic weights, these different frictions between disclosure and restraint. inhibited first because all language is a compromise with lived experience, and inhibited secondly because the act of producing poems, of “being a poet” situated within prize and publication culture is a form of mediation. i want to write this way, but i found when I sat down to start, i was inhibited. I want to produce work that embodies the collapse of linear understanding that occurs during and following trauma, provoking what literary theorist shoshana felman has described as a “disintegration of narrative”. my research will explore the idea that the epistolary form is one way in which this process takes place. assimilated, integrated, and transformed into some kind of narrative language. her work examines strategies by which trauma may be “told”, i.e. her analysis argues for a literature of trauma that communicates in indirect and unexpected ways. My work is mainly concerned with what cathy caruth defines as “impossible saying”, the narration of trauma. i’ve spent my summer reading around this subject, trying to find a way into it, a critical framework for intuitive approaches i haven’t yet learnt to articulate. In october 2016 i’m starting a practice based ph.d at birkbeck on the relationship between the epistolary form in contemporary poetry and the use of letters in therapeutic contexts. what? the eye, inflicted frontier, forced to see against its will. a poem isn’t shared, a poem’s only ever stolen. i have been saying over and over: this isn’tįor you. i have given you this weĬonsummate a censorship. so what does this poem amount to? gentle reader,ĭotter of my every eavesdropped i. Later, I would write any of these problem words on flash cards, and then flash them a few times a day, in short, 5-minute sessions. We would read a simple reader together, and when she struggled with a word, I would quickly jot it down along with sounding it out for her. With my second child, who had auditory processing difficulties, her reading took off once we started doing sight word flashcards with her. Some children are well served by also giving them sight words. Phonics aren't the only thing involved in developing reading fluency, however. As you flash the letter cards and carefully articulate the sounds, even encouraging your child to repeat after you, you are reinforcing the idea that letters represent sounds. The phonics activities that are included in The Peaceful Preschool curriculum, are activities that I used to provide multi-sensory phonics input.
